I have been teaching children's woodworking and carving for over 8 years. I offer a woodworking workshop for grades SK through 6.

I will come in to your classroom with precut 3/4" pine kits, hammers,nails, safety glasses, paint, brushes, dropsheets,and aprons.

I am taking bookings for Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day and Father's day projects.

Projects take approx. 1 1/2 hours to complete and I can accommodate 30 children at a time.

Projects and prices shown are : Birdhouses - box size 5 1/2" x 7" -front 10" $ 8 , Cedar planter 8" x 7" x 20" tall $ 8, Welcome( or name) tin sign 16" x 8" $ 8, Treasure box 8" x 5 1/2" x 6" tall $ 10 Frosty Head $ 10, Santa down the chimney $ 8, basketball game $ 7, fish key holder $ 7 , angel with punched tin wings. $ 8

I also offer Carving to grades 6 to 8.

There are 2 projects to choose from - Fairy Houses -which tie in with technology as we carve shingles, windows, doors, brickwork,stairs and wood siding . ( 6" to 8" cottonwood bark ). The second project is a Penguin 4 1/2 " tall and 2 3/4" wide carved from basswood.

I provide the cut out, knife, glove and paint. The project takes approximately

4 to 5 hours. I can come in to your class for 1 1/2hour sessions -once to twice a week. Cost per child is $ 12. I can accommodate 30 children at a time.

My workshops develop manual dexterity, fine motor skills, a sense of accomplishment, creativity and empowerment.

re: Diane Irwin's technology workshops

I was approached by Diane to see if I would like to offer a technology opportunity to my grade 8 class.She
wanted to have the students carve penguins from wood. She would supply each student with the wood,
carving knives, paint, brushes, and her expertise. In return the students would have a finished product to
remember the experience. I discussed this opportunity with my students and they were very keen to give it a try. Diane arrived with the
materials and after a brief introduction and discussion on the "do's" and "don't's" of wood carving the wood
chips were flying. It was interesting to watch the dynamics within the classroom as certain students soon took
on leadership roles - in some cases these students were new to the leadership role and thrived in the spotlight. We thought the students would need between 6 - 8 hours of working time to complete the project or four
afternoons. After the 4th afternoon we decided that additional time was needed so Diane came back for a 5th
time. All of my students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The vast majority completed the task and were eager
to take home their penguin to show their family. I would highly recommend that you take advantage of this opportunity with your class. It gave me the chanceto work "hands on" with my students. We sat and had conversations about many topics and some were even
school related.

We are hoping to be able to have Diane return once more before the end of the school year - as soon as she
can find a bee that we can carve.
